Position Specific Information

Welders

POSITION SUMMARY
Incumbent is responsible for welding together metal components to fabricate strength equipment using electric arc-welding equipment.

SCOPE OF POSITION
This position reports to the Operations Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Set-up
• Obtains specified electrode and inserts electrode into portable holder or threads consumable electrode wire through portable welding gun.
• Connects cables from welding unit to obtain amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse, as specified.
• Starts power supply to produce electric current.
Welding
• Strikes (forms) arc which generates heat to melt and deposit metal from electrode to workpiece and join edges of workpiece.
• Manually guides electrode or gun along weld line, maintaining length of arc and speed of movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead, as judged from color of metal, sound of weld, and size of molten puddle.
• Welds in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions.
• Examines weld for bead size and other specifications.
• Applies filler rod manually to supply weld metal.
• Preheats workpiece with hand torch or heating furnace.
• Positions and clamps workpieces together or assembles them in jig or fixture.
• Tacks assemblies together.

Finishing
• Cleans workpieces to remove impurities, such as spatter, slag, beads, rust, and grease, using wire brush, portable grinder, sander and/or hand tools.
• Inspects welded workpieces for defects, such as cracks, cold weld, spatter, and undercuts.
• Repairs broken or cracked parts and fills holes.
• Prepares broken parts for welding by grooving or scarfing surfaces.
• Operates various portable hand, power and air tools, i.e., screw driver, wrenches, sockets, calipers, clamping devices, grinders, hand drills, belt sanders.

Material Handling
• Operates material handling equipment including pallet jacks, utility carts, and hand trucks.
• Loads/unloads stock material from bins and carts.

Area Maintenance
• Keeps area neat and in order.
• Inspects, cleans, and maintains machines, tools, parts, stock, equipment and work area
• Reports damage, wear, tear and other potential defects.
• Keeps area stocked with supplies.
• Follows all safety rules, policies and safe work practices.

Other
• Rotates to different workstations as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Any equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job, will be considered.

Education:
• High School diploma or GED.
• Welding trade school or apprenticeship training is preferred

Experience:
• Minimum one year welding experience
• Other manufacturing experience helpful.


General Production Positions

Assembly
Paint
Upholstery

POSITION SUMMARY:
Incumbent is responsible performing general production duties ranging from performing repetitive bench/line assembly operations; performing repetitive upholstery tasks such as cutting, sewing and finishing to make custom seats; and operating a spray painter to apply powder coat finishes on parts. All tasks must be performed under an established time frame.

SCOPE OF POSITION:
This position reports to the Operations Supervisor and relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.

WORK HOURS:
General production employees rotate from station-to-station during the 10-hour shift. Employees will work a four (4) day – ten (10) hour workweek.


Department: Assembly

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Mechanical Assembly
• Places parts in specified relationship to each other. Bolts, clips, screws, taps, presses or otherwise fastens parts together using supported portable air tools (tool balancers), power and hand tools.
• May tend machines, such as arbor presses and small scale, dual-palm initiated, hydraulic presses to perform fitting or fastening operations on assembly line.
• Operates various portable hand, power and air tools, i.e., screw drivers, wrenches, sockets, calipers, clamping devices, grinders, hand drills, belt sanders.

Some assembly is conducted on a moving assembly line and each task must be performed under an established time frame.


Department: Paint

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Paint Preparation
• Prepares work pieces for painting by masking/covering select holes, openings and areas with small rubber plugs and masking material
Painting
• Operates cone or nozzle-type electrostatic painting equipment to spray negatively charged paint particles onto positively charged work pieces.
• Moves switches and dials to start flow current and to activate conveyor and paint spraying equipment. Turns valves and observes gauges to set pressure and to control flow of paint to each spray station.
• Inspects painted work pieces for runs, sags, and unpainted areas. Readjusts pressure valves to control direction and pattern of spray and to correct flaws in coating.
• Cleans paint from ceiling and walls of booth, conveyor hooks or grid, and from disks, cones, spray heads, and hoses, using solvent and brush.

Department: Upholstery

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Cutting
• Selects appropriate material.
• Lays pattern on material and uses scissors to cut pattern pieces.

Finishing
• Stretches and folds material over foam seats and staples in place using supported portable staple gun.
• Removes excess fabric after stapling material in place
• Visually inspects entire unit for defects or damage.

Other
• May tend machines, such as drill presses to cut and drill plastic pieces for labeling machines.
• Rotates to different work stations as assigned.

Additional requirements for Upholstery Sewers:

Sewing
• Places material in specified relationship to each other.
• Guiding fabric under machine needles and presser foot to sew parts together by holding and controlling upholstery material.
• Sewing material using the appropriate stitch for the material by referring to work instructions.
• Place spools of thread, cord, or other materials on spindles, insert bobbinsx, and thread ends through machine guides and components by referencing work instructions.
• Change needles according to upholstery material specifications and training.
• Perform daily maintenance to machine according to requirements.

Incumbents must be able to operate advanced sewing machine equipment on a variety of vinyl and leather material.


Applies to all General Production positions :

Material Handling
• Loads/unloads mild steel and aluminum work pieces and parts.
• Loads/unloads mild steel and aluminum work pieces and parts from bins and carts.
• Operates material handling equipment including ergonomic lifting devices, mechanical hoists, air lifts, pallet jacks, utility carts, and hand trucks.

Forklift
• May be required to Operates tier lift truck or use handtruck to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage or work area.

Safety & Area Maintenance
• Follows all safety rules, policies and safe work practices.
• Keeps area neat and in order.
• Inspects, cleans, and maintains machines, tools, parts, stock, equipment and work area (uses petroleum products and general cleaners, i.e., mineral oil, simple green, hydraulic fluid).
• Reports damage, wear, tear and other potential defects. .
• Keeps area stocked with supplies.
